A PalAmerican Hero
While on patrol, Security Supervisor Lori Tavarez responded to a security call involving an individual attempting to force their way into the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Upon arrival, Lori found that the individual had already entered the unit and was acting inappropriately. Lori quickly intervened, attempting to restrain the subject. They resisted and ran back into the nursery before attempting to gain access to labor and delivery. In the end, Lori was able to successfully detain the person and have them taken into custody when law enforcement arrived.
The PalAmerican Family is extremely proud of Lori Tavarez's heroic actions, which saved the lives of multiple newborn babies through her quick thinking and selfless efforts. Lori received numerous accolades for her courageous response, including the Lifesaver Award from PalAmerican and recognized her heroism by featuring it in a USA-wide monthly newsletter. Lori's actions serve as an inspiration to all security professionals and demonstrate the importance of being prepared for the unexpected.
Sound Judgement
In this case, two newborn babies were at risk of serious harm, requiring Lori Tavarez to demonstrate exceptional judgment when assessing the potential risks and outcomes of the situation. Lori responded with professionalism and skill, successfully securing the safety of the infants and apprehending the assailant. Without Lori's sound judgment and quick action, the consequences could have been devastating. Her actions demonstrate the importance of careful and reliable security measures in ensuring the safety of all individuals.
Courage
She showed tremendous courage in this situation by taking decisive action to protect the lives of multiple newborn babies. Faced with a life-threatening situation, Lori remained calm and used her training and judgment to safely intervene and rescue the infants. Despite the assailant's resistance and attempts to flee, Lori pursued and detained the individual until law enforcement arrived.

Use of Learned Skills
Lori demonstrated a textbook application of key concepts from both primary and more advanced healthcare security training. Particularly of note was the Officer’s use of skills from the Management of Aggressive Behavior Certification program and drawing upon the teachings of Conflict Resolution Training, Crisis Management Training, and Effective Communication Training. Lori's use of security training in this situation was effective and showcased her understanding of these security concepts.

In her current role as Security Supervisor, Lori is known for her strong leadership skills and ability to work well with her team.
